Not Cool
The Italy - Serbia euro qualifier game was abandoned after Serbian supporters caused havoc on the pitch. Only 7 minutes was able to played after the referee was given the all clear to halt play. Serbian fans had been causing trouble during the day also with Italian riot police using tear gas on the Serbian supporters as they made their way to the stadium. Flares were thrown onto the field and fans started smashing and forcing their way through the sercurity barrier. Serbian goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic refused to play after recieving threats from Serbian supporters earlier at the hotel. The Serbian team pleaded with the fans to stop, but it was to no use.
I just want to say that I am sickened by these images and these events. Football is a world sport meant to be enjoyed and bring nations together. There is no room for violence. I hope that football fans around the world agree with me and treat the game, the players and the supporters with RESPECT.
Thank You x
