Ruben De La Red (former Real Madrid player) announced today that he will be retiring from football at age 25. In 2008 he dramatically collapsed and almost died during a King's Cup match away to third division side Union Irun. Medical checks have confirmed that he has a serious heart condition, and heart specialists have advised him never to play again. De La Red is going to continue being a part of Real Madrid however, coaching one of the youth teams. This is a very sad situation, football is losing a great player, we wish De La Red health and happiness from now on.
